WebMay 28, 2024 · Nematicity is deemed a precursor of superconductivity in unconventional superconductors. Here, the authors investigate the formation of a nematic phase and the dynamics of nematic fluctuations in FeSe using ultrafast electron diffraction. They find an enhancement of the high-symmetry crystalline order as a result of photoinduced … WebJul 1, 2015 · The order parameter ( S) is determined from the dichroic ratio ( R = k∥ / k⊥ ). The parameter S is also obtained from absorption coefficients and extraordinary ( n∥ )/ordinary ( n⊥) refractive index data. The magnitude and temperature dependence of the parameter S near these phase transitions are reported. The results are discussed and ...
WebIn summary, our work introduces a powerful tuning parameter for electronic Ising-nematic order: strain that breaks different symmetries than the nematic order. For a representative system, we show that shear strain enhances quantum nematic fluctuations, can be varied continuously without introducing disorder, and preserves time-reversal symmetry. A second rank symmetric traceless tensor order parameter is used to describe the orientational order of the most general biaxial nematic liquid crystal. However, to describe the more common case of uniaxial nematic liquid crystals, a scalar order parameter is sufficient. See more Liquid crystal (LC) is a state of matter whose properties are between those of conventional liquids and those of solid crystals. For example, a liquid crystal may flow like a liquid, but its molecules may be oriented in a crystal … See more A large number of chemical compounds are known to exhibit one or several liquid crystalline phases. Despite significant differences in chemical composition, these molecules have some common features in chemical and physical properties. There are three types of … See more Lyotropic liquid-crystalline phases are abundant in living systems, the study of which is referred to as lipid polymorphism. Accordingly, lyotropic liquid crystals attract particular attention … See more Anisotropy of liquid crystals is a property not observed in other fluids. This anisotropy makes flows of liquid crystals behave more differentially than those of ordinary fluids. For example, injection of a flux of a liquid crystal between two close parallel plates ( See more In 1888, Austrian botanical physiologist Friedrich Reinitzer, working at the Karl-Ferdinands-Universität, examined the physico-chemical properties of various derivatives See more The various liquid-crystal phases (called mesophases) can be characterized by the type of ordering. One can distinguish positional order (whether molecules are arranged in any sort of ordered lattice) and orientational order (whether molecules are mostly pointing in … See more Examples of liquid crystals can also be found in the mineral world, most of them being lyotropic. The first discovered was vanadium(V) oxide, by Zocher in 1925. Since then, few … See more
