WebJan 17, 2001 · over the weekend. I followed the procedure in the Tech section. I used a black satin finish trim paint. The paint seems to have stuck to the trim pretty good. I did sand it with 400 grit sandpaper before. I haven't put the grille back on my car yet. If it doesn't look good, I may paint it yellow to match my car. WebJul 31, 2015 · I've painted all my trim.. For around the windows, fender vents, and rear trunk trim, its great. I even used the flattening agent to make it matte black and its holding up wonderfully. My process was sanded the trim with 600 grit, and ran over top after with a scuff pad, followed by an adhesion promoter and primer.

Just made sure to clean well and tried to scuff the grill a bit. Been through the car wash with it and didn't lose any.

No need to remove the chrome. It's a plating. Have it bead blasted to give the coating something to stick to. In this article, they say it can be applied over chrome.
