WebIt is not clear who was the first to reach the North Pole. A US explorer called Frederick Cook claimed to have walked there in 1908, but had no proof. Another American called Robert Peary announced that he had reached the Pole in 1909, but because his men were not trained navigators, none of them could be sure.
